So
apparently I haven’t written a blog post in a while. Oops. Well I thought I
should remedy that with a short post before I take off on a road trip tomorrow. Otherwise another week will pass without me writing anything.
Tomorrow I’m
off to Dalwallinu to visit a friend on her birthday, meet her new baby and stay
with them for a few days. Although my friend and I have known each other since
we were 12 years old, this will only be my second trip ever to Dally, her home
town. My first trip was for her Year 12 graduation almost 14 years ago!
It was during
that trip that I discovered that there’s a certain temperature at which the
concrete footpath becomes hotter than the black bitumen road. (I believe that
temperature was probably somewhere between 43°C and 46°C.) I, along with
another friend, made this discovery when we foolishly decided to walk down the
main street of a wheatbelt town barefoot on a summer’s day. So now you know!
Well if
Dally’s weather is anything like what we’ve had in the hills this evening, I may
be going barefoot again, only this time it will be to avoid that horrible
feeling of walking around in soggy shoes! Of course, if I’m smart, I’ll take a
spare pair with me…
Actually, the
rain seems to have died down a lot, so I may need to come up with another
excuse to lose the shoes (in case a road trip itself is not reason enough!). I am quite glad, really, as I wasn’t excited about
the prospect of a three hour drive through bucketing rain and flooded roads. My
15 minute drive through it this evening was enough for me. I was certainly very
thankful for the new tyres on my car!
